About Mrs. Light
I came to the Chestnut Ridge School District from Pittsburgh in the fall of 2015. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. I have a Master’s Degree and dual certification in Elementary and Special Education from Seton Hill University. I am currently working on my Doctorate in Special Education at the University of Pittsburgh, and I am on track to earn my degree in the Summer of 2023.
I have been working with children in a variety of capacities for over 21 years. Throughout college, I worked in the early education setting, and by my graduate level I was directing a large early education and after school program in the Pittsburgh area. After my graduation and certification, I joined the Carnegie Institutes as Museum Educator while also teaching at the Falk School, a private K-8 laboratory school operated under the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. A major focus of my position as a faculty at the Falk School was the design of flexible, responsive and challenging curricula that meets the needs of all students in the general education classroom.
A little bit about what to expect this year:
I work with all of the 5th grade teachers to make sure that your student is able to access the curriculum to the best of their ability. I will be spending a portion of the day working with students in the regular education classroom. I also present specialized curriculum in math, reading, and writing to students as needed in the learning support classroom. Finally, I have a resource period that provides support and additional time to work on classroom assignments.
I am looking forward to a great year with you and your child!
